Sometimes you want to install an OS on to an old computer that does not boot from USB, and you don’t have, or don’t want to waste a DVD to burn.
Here is a way to install any OS directly to the hard drive using Virtualbox’s raw disk feature.
I used a cheap USB to IDE adapter.
Command was from this site: www.virtualbox.org/manua…
This will work for any OS and any mass storage device.
The trick is to setup up the virtual machine with the same storage controller and configuration the target computer has.
The command:
VBoxManage internalcommands createrawvmdk -filename /path/to/file.vmdk -rawdisk /dev/sda
