Plugable USB Bluetooth Adapter: Solving HFP/HSP and A2DP Profile Issues on Linux

  • I’m David Roberts at Plugable Technologies, the product manager for the Plugable Bluetooth adapter.

The fix you mention only affects the HSP/HFP profiles which are not really working well in Linux since the upgrade to Bluez 5.x.

There are other possible issues that can come up with connecting Bluetooth headphones in Ubuntu (and other Debian-based distros like Mint, Raspbian and of course Debian). For example, due to an Ubuntu bug, it is frequently necessary to remove a Bluetooth audio device pairing and pair it again if the device was disconnected for any reason. Also, many recent high-end headphones and speakers like the Bose QC35 have a non-standard Bluetooth Low Energy side channel that they use to communicate with their mobile app. This side channel causes problems in Linux.

I encourage anyone having issues with the Plugable adapter in Linux to contact us at [email protected] (Note only one “g” in our company name). Thanks!
