How to mount a Google Cloud Storage bucket as a drive in Ubuntu 15.10 wily using FUSE


Install gcloud

# Create an environment variable for the correct distribution
export CLOUD_SDK_REPO="cloud-sdk-$(lsb_release -c -s)"

# Add the Cloud SDK distribution URI as a package source
echo "deb $CLOUD_SDK_REPO main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/google-cloud-sdk.list

# Import the Google Cloud public key
curl | sudo apt-key add -

# Update and install the Cloud SDK
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install google-cloud-sdk

# Run gcloud init to get started
gcloud init



Install gcfuse

export GCSFUSE_REPO=gcsfuse-`lsb_release -c -s`
echo "deb $GCSFUSE_REPO main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/gcsfuse.list
curl | sudo apt-key add -

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gcsfuse

sudo usermod -a -G fuse $USER



mkdir google-cloud
gcsfuse <my-bucket> google-cloud

Create Unity menu launcher

apt-get install alacart


Use this icon:…


fusermount -u google-cloud
